Which FTP Support? Active/Passive?

I am running Firefox 1.0.4 on Solaris 8 and have a couple of questions about
FTP support. I have googled and looked around at mozilla.org but not finding
the answer.

What type of FTP does Firefox use?
If FTP is enabled, is it active or passive?
What is the default?

Only passive FTP is supported.

Only passive FTP is supported.

...except, IIUC, with the FireFTP extension. But I had some problems
with the latter in the past -- YMMV. I recommend using an external
program (such as FileZilla) for active FTP.
