When running Mozilla, if I clicked on a link in another client
(emailer, whatever), Mozilla would open the link in the most recently-
accessed browser window.

Firefox first tops the recent window (which is somewhat annoying) and
then opens a NEW browser window to display the new content (which is
very annoying). I keep ending up with a dozen browser windows on my
desktop.

I don't see anything in the options to control this behavior. The
options seem kinda skimpy compared to Mozilla. Am I missing something?

Install the Tab Browser Extension. Go to tools/extensions, and click on
get extensions and Tab Browser will be among the extensions offered. Be
sure to go directly to the site to download the newest version. It
works beautifully.

Install the Tab Browser Extension.
? I already have and use tabs, so e.g. I can ctrl-click on a link and
it will open in a new tab. But that doesn't help when requests are
sent from another tool such as an email client.

I see Tabbrowser Preferences -- is that what you meant? There doesn't
seem to be anything that explains what it DOES, other than it "enables
enhanced control of tabbed browsing." The home page indicates it's
under major flux at the moment.

As you seem to have TBE:

1. go to its preference dialog (either in the Tab menu or, if you don't
see it, Tools|Extensions -> double click "Tabbrowser Extensions")

2. find the preference controlling the behavior of "external links" (in
version 1.11 of TBE, this is located in the preference tree under Use
tab -> External links)

3. select the behavior you want, e.g., "Open in new tab" (the choices
were somewhat different in previous versions of TBE, this is for 1.11).

That's pretty exactly what it does: TBE adds more functionality to
tabbed browsing, and more control of it for the user.

I'm not using Tab Browser Extension nor Tab Browser Preferences anymore, but
I get what you're looking for with the Single Window extension:

This is answered in the Firefox FAQ
