Discussion:
setting for nglayout.initialpaint.delay?
(too old to reply)

I have read that one can set the initialpaintdelay to 0 for faster
loading. However, I then read a lot of convincing arguments that
suggest this creates too many reflows to really speed anything up, and
in fact, it can slow page loading quite a lot.

I've begun experimenting with different settings: 25, 50 and now, 100.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to test this to find the optimum
setting.

Right now I'm watching the blue bar and looking to find no reflows when
I load a relatively complex page. This seems possible on most pages
most of the time, at 100.

But - is this the best way to measure? And, does anyone know what the
default setting is? This is a line one adds to about:config - without
it, there is a default setting but I don't know what it is.

Thoughts - suggestions?

The default is no setting at all. Go to about:config, type paint into
the filter. Right click on the pref, and select reset. This will set
any pref in about:config back to the default setting.

Thanks - and I will do that if necessary. However, might it load faster
(cable modem etc), if I do set it to 50 or 100 or ????

How can there be a default setting to a pref that's not even there
unless we add it?
